Let's talk about our turnout gear. This ensemble of specialized equipment helps to protects firefighters from fire and other dangers.

Our gear is made of fire resistant material and has multiple layers of fabric to keep us safe. There are strict industry standards that need to be met for turnout gear to be effective. Did you know our gear can be exposed to about 1600 degrees farenheit before it catches on fire?

Our personal protective equipment includes our boots, pants, coat, hood, helmet, gloves, breathing apparatus and radios. Each of our firefighters are fitted for their own gear.

And yes, when we get our gear dirty we need to wash it. The Lincoln Fire Company has a specialized washing machine for our gear. Also, fire gear doesn't last forever. The same standards used for making the gear also state that after 10 years, the gear should not be used for interior firefighting.

Turnout gear is one of the many expenses that our organization has. We ask everyone please donate to our fund drive. Help us, help you!
