This week, we answer the question "What is RIT"? You may have seen in the past that we've posted that one of our crews arrived on scene of an incident and established RIT. But what exactly does that mean? RIT stands for Rapid Intervention Team. This is a group of firefighters who are specially trained and equipped to rescue other firefighters who are injured, trapped, or lost while fighting a fire. The RIT team can typically be found standing off to the side or near the building that is on fire constantly monitoring radio traffic and evaluating fire conditions. Typically, the team carries a variety of saws, hand tools, extra breathing air, thermal imaging cameras and a FAST Board. The team is constantly in a state of readiness and prepared to deploy if another firefighters calls out a distress signal known as a mayday.

Because we have a Rescue truck, that crew is regularly assigned RIT duties at fires. The Rescue carries the appropriate tools for that job. The picture below is a shot of one of our crews providing RIT services at a house fire in Akron in April 2021.

Our Fund Drive is critical to our general operations. We know that times are tough for many of us, however, we ask that you consider donating to our organization. Any amount helps us, help you.
